It is still love.

I wanted to share this quotation from a story that has touched my life and influenced my perspective on disability and identity. Clara Claiborne Park wrote extensively about her experiences raising an autistic daughter, and in doing so, she helped to discredit a commonly accepted story of the past – that mothers are at fault when children develop autism and other conditions. Her daughter, Jessica, is an accomplished artist.

In an upcoming post, I will discuss some of the ethical considerations around parents telling stories about their children, and family reactions to public storytelling in general.
